Betty & Mary: Neighbors Screenplay is a Finalist at Independent Shorts Awards
The screenplay for Betty & Mary: Neighbors, the second film in the Betty & Mary trilogy, has been named a finalist at Independent Shorts Awards. Written by Dana Lyn Baron, the screenplay continues to gain recognition on the international festival circuit as the trilogy moves toward production of its next chapters.
About the Screenplay
No pulling punches this time around: After murdering their sleazeball boss and blowing up their workplace, two dysfunctional strippers—one jaded, one guilt-ridden—try to lay low, shake off the hangover, and figure out if their new neighbor with wings is here to help… or just judge them really hard.
From the Judges:
A deliriously funny and darkly feminist crime comedy that mashes up Thelma &
Louise and Macbeth with unapologetic glee. Betty and Mary, Neighbors follows two
mismatched strippers whose morning-after banter spirals into flashbacks of murder,
absurdity, and existential sisterhood. The dialogue crackles with wit and layered irony,
while the Shakespearean echoes deepen the satire rather than parody it. Its tonal
control—balancing raunch, remorse, and surreal humor—marks a distinct authorial voice and strong screen potential for genre festivals.
A deliriously funny and darkly feminist crime comedy that mashes up Thelma & Louise and Macbeth with unapologetic glee.
Comparable to: Thelma & Louise, Heathers, Killing Eve, Macbeth (Cohen adaptation).
Award Level: Gold Award
Nomination Potential: Excellent fit for Best Short Script, Best Dark Comedy Short,
and Best Duo Performance
